Google Ads can turn website offers into promotions: check the page and the account setting
Automated promotions draw from your landing pages. Check eligibility, inspect Google AI assets and use manual scheduling when an offer needs exact dates.

Google Ads can extract an offer from your website and attach it to eligible ads without you writing that promotion yourself. The practical check starts in two places: the offers still visible on your landing pages and the automated promotions setting inside your account.
Google's documentation does not provide a launch date or establish that advertisers are enrolled by default. It describes how the feature works when enabled. A page that still advertises an old discount deserves attention, but the documentation is not evidence that Google has actually served an expired offer from your site.
Which campaigns can use the offer
The automated promotions help page covers Search and Performance Max campaigns with location assets attached, including Local Ad campaigns. Campaigns already running manual promotions are bypassed. Standard advertising policies still apply.
An automated promotion is eligible to run for less than 24 hours. It can become eligible again while Google's systems continue to verify that the offer remains visible. Start and end dates are not yet extracted. That makes a short eligibility period different from a reliable expiry schedule for your sale.
For a hypothetical weekend offer, leaving the discount banner visible on Monday creates an avoidable ambiguity. Remove or correct the offer everywhere it appears, including campaign landing pages that your main navigation no longer highlights. Assign someone to check the live page after the sale ends, rather than assuming a calendar reminder changed the website.
Find the asset, then check the switch
In Assets, filter Asset type to Promotion and inspect the Added by column for Google AI. Hovering over that label reveals sourcing details; hovering over the promotion name reveals asset details. Compare what appears there with the actual offer, its restrictions and the page customers reach.
To switch the feature off, open Assets, choose More in the filter bar, then Account level automated assets. Open More again, select Advanced settings and set Automated promotions to Off, providing a reason if prompted. The enabling option is labelled On (recommended); that label alone does not tell you your account's present state.
Record the setting before changing it and tell whoever manages the campaigns. If an agency controls several accounts, request a separate check for each relevant account. One screenshot of one account cannot establish what the others are doing.
Use manual control when timing matters
Google's manual promotion asset instructions allow scheduling by dates, days and times. Use that route when the exact promotional wording or eligibility window needs deliberate control. Check the website too: a carefully scheduled asset does not repair an outdated landing page.
Keep this review separate from Google Ads API connector checks, which address a different part of the advertising workflow. Add offer removal and account-setting checks to your website maintenance routine, with an owner and a completion record. The useful outcome is an offer whose page, advertising and actual availability agree.
